Title: Unicorn Challenges the Dragon Under the Sun and Moon
Year: 1977-78
Size: 83" X 68"
Medium: Traditional batik method; beswax, peraffin wax, textile dyes, on commercial cotton sheet.

I did this project while a senior in high school. It's presently hanging on my other wall in my bedroom. I had a lot of fun with it, though it was so big it was difficult to see what I was doing, especially after the first dye bath faded the pencil marks of the drawing. And then with all the wax that covered it toward the end. I didn't know how it was going to turn out until after the wax was ironed off, and that alone took me several days.
Not too bad, though, and the beeswax has kept it preserved all these years, otherwise the moths would have gotten to it long ago.

Batik?! I've never seen a batik this detailed before..I am thoroughly impressed. :jawdrop: I love the style you went with, it's very whimsical, almost like a children's book cut from construction paper...except on fabric, if that makes any sense..love it though!

Thanks! Yeah, it was a very big batik, and I loved working in as much detail as the medium would allow. :D
